Roger Kao has been a principle figure at D-Link ever since the company was established in 1986. Initially helping to lay the foundation for the company's global brand, Mr. Kao has a substantial record of effective executive leadership in key markets including North America and Greater China.
Born in 1952, Roger Kao graduated from Tamkang University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He went on to earn his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from National Chiao Tung University where he also served as an Associate Professor. Mr. Kao also spent time at the Information Management Center in the office of Accounting and Statistics, Executive Yuan, Taiwan. Kao eventually moved to the United States where he held a position at a software company until 1986.
In August of 1986, Roger Kao was invited by his brother, D-Link founder Ken Kao, to join D-Link as the general manager of D-Link USA. During this initial period Roger Kao was instrumental in D-Link’s early success in the United States, overseeing many aspects of the company, particularly the areas of sales and business development. Kao also served as President of Cellvision Systems Inc., a D-Link partner company, from 1996-2006. After establishing a strong presence in the West, Roger Kao set his sights on Asia, eventually becoming the Chairman of D-Link’s Greater China division in 2003. Recognizing his productive track record, the board of directors named Mr. Kao Chairman and CEO of D-Link Corporation in September of 2011. Kao has stated that he hopes to build on D-Link’s past successes, creating a growth engine that will drive the company forward, further advancing the brand worldwide.
During his free time, Mr. Kao is keen at outdoor activities such as basketball, tennis, golf, mountain-climbing, and skiing.
